Their music is the portrait of a world of marginalized anger with life. Their history was always on the edge, dangerously close to the disaster, to the end. The Ramones were the parents of American punk, and the least successful. An energetic musical journey of four rebellious young men who, if they had not been artists, would have ended up in jail or in a psyche ward. The punkiest band among the punks has a history as harsh as it is fascinating. I devoured their story, marked by personality disorders, unapologetic excess, debauchery, extravagance and disgrace. That's how I discovered them, the fathers of Punk, and until that moment authentic strangers to me. The eagle was in the center and had four names around it: Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Tommy the Ramones. It was the beginning of my adoration for Graphic T-shirts, and the legendary band. That someone looked at me challenging and her pose and attitude spoke to me, and as if on behalf of The Ramones, said “I don't give a f- what you think.”Īn unassuming black T-shirt with a label in capital letters inside a round seal with an eagle emblazoned upon it, a name stood out and struck me - Ramones. Someone was wearing it with an air of bravado.
The Ramones, the t-shirt I don’t have was there, in the white pages of a magazine, insurgent, quarrelsome, irreverent. The first time I saw it was love at first sight, a real crush, a slap of enthusiasm that woke in me that strange feeling that marks a process towards true adulation.
Fortunately, they are few, but they are there, roaming my worlds, awakening my desire, revolutionizing my harmony. I'm not ashamed to say it there are material things that disturb my sleep.
